The National Memorial Arboretum

Description

The National Memorial Arboretum is the Nation's focus for remembrance outside London. Set within the National Forest near Lichfield, the Arboretum provides a year long living and lasting focus for remembrance, essentially for those who have lost their lives or suffered in the service of our country. It is a haven of peace and contemplation where visitors can both enjoy and learn about the trees and their surroundings and reflect upon their special symbolism. The location benefits from a unique wildlife habitat, bordered on one side by the banks of the River Tame.

Branston Water Park

Description

Adjacent to the Trent & Mersey Canal is Green Flag award winning Branston Water Park, a 40 acre lake surrounded by woodland, wetland and wildflower meadow that supports a rich variety of bird and wildlife. A one-mile accessible trail leads around the lake to the woodland, the reserve is also used for model boating and angling through local clubs. There is also a small visitor centre and children's play area.

National Forest Maize Maze

Description

The National Forest Maize Maze is a fun day out for the whole family. This year the maze has adopted a Wild West theme and depicts the head and shoulders of a Native American Indian! The giant head is 200m in diameter and includes 5km of pathways, bridges and towers. Covering 14 acres it is one of the largest mazes in Europe. Admission includes entry to the fun field where you can enjoy go-karts, the fossil pit, straw mountain, animal petting area, the splash zone, giant inflatable maze and lots of new activities for this year. Refreshments available. Last admission 5pm. From 29 August - end of September, experience the maze by torchlight! Every Saturday night during this period the maze will be open until 10.30pm.

Blithfield Hall

Blithfield had been the home of the Bagot Family for 750 years. Groups of upto 25 people can be shown around the Great Hall and other rooms by prior arrangement. Booking in advance is essential. Catton Hall

Description

Georgian Hall dating from 1745 with original collection of antique furniture and paintings. First mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1085 and purchased by ancestors of the Neilson family in 1405. Formal gardens to the front and mixed borders to the rear of the hall run down to the River Trent and include the family chapel built in 1890s.
